Leader provides highly technical energy services in a demanding physical environment, and we recognize the benefits to ourselves and customers of having field operators with thorough and appropriate training. Accordingly, Leader has a systematic and continuing approach to training of its personnel, from new recruits to experienced operators seeking to add to their skills and qualifications.

All prospective and new employees are covered by the same basic procedures. Applicants are subjected to driver abstract checks and drug screening. The minimum requirement for all new recruits is completion of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), which provides training on how to utilize labelling and training manuals. Leader also requires courses in H2S safety, Petroleum Safety Training, B.C. and Alberta First Aid and Fall Arrest. All of these are in addition to the normal job-specific qualifications for a given employment category (such as a trade ticket).

Employment begins with the New Hire Orientation and Leader Safety Orientation. All employees are provided a copy of the Leader Safety and Procedures Manual, and are expected to read this comprehensive document.

In addition, there is job-specific training for certain categories. Drivers complete the General Oilfield Driver Improvement course and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) course covering nitrogen and other field materials.

Leader helps recruits achieve the external prerequisites and its new employees to achieve the Company’s internal training standards. New employees are typically partnered with senior employees to receive proper supervision and additional on-the-job training.

Different levels of employees have different requirements. Supervisors require coiled tubing and well blowout courses, which are provided by Leader. Senior employees and managers receive the bulk of their ongoing training in the field. Leader also helps its employees move through the journeyman stages, such as through wellhead boom courses.
