Leader is a technology innovator. We continually seek to develop new processes in order to improve our services, reliability, cost-effectiveness and safety. Leader innovations developed and rolled-out to date include:
- Real-time remote graphical display of downhole data;
- Single-coil service to 4,400 metres; and
- Flameless nitrogen pumping.

Real-time remote graphical display of downhole data – Leader puts you, the customer, in the field operator’s seat without leaving your office! Using field data capture and wireless communications, Leader transmits the data collected in the coiled tubing unit’s cab to its Calgary corporate offices or directly to the customer.
The Leader-developed graphical interface creates a display of the cab’s gauges in real time, enabling you to monitor the results of coiled tubing, CCP and nitrogen operations as if you were sitting in the cab at the wellsite. Leader’s system also records the data as they are produced, providing a long-term record for your referral and analysis when planning your next similar well completion. It also enables you to match your job specifications against what the service provider is actually doing in the field.
Leader’s data acquisition system for coiled tubing operations was introduced in the summer of 2009 and we have since extended it to our nitrogen pumping services. The system is also used with CCP operations. In addition, Leader’s redundant backup system collects all data in the event of a technical failure in the cab.
Single-coil service to 5,600 metres – By bringing design and manufacture of our latest 2” coiled tubing units in-house, Leader was able to reduce truck weight sufficiently to mount 5,600 metres of coil on a single truck. Result: coiled tubing service to 5,600 metres total measured depth from a single coil. This speeds up our work on-site and cuts transportation costs on deeper well jobs by removing a truck and driver from the equipment spread.
Flameless nitrogen pumping – Introduced in 2004, Leader’s technology vaporizes nitrogen for pumping downhole without the use of an igniter, improving site safety. Leader was the first service provider to use flameless nitrogen in western Canada.
